Charlie’s Corner

Rux boy, you’d remember this one. ;-)

Today (Sunday), we decided to drive down to Changi Village for dinner. I was thinking immediately of Charlie’s Corner, a nice little place at the hawker which stands out for its good variety of beer, nice grub (think sausages and burgers) and at decent prices. I reckon it would be closed or perhaps even gone. It must have been at least 5 years since I have been to Charlie’s Corner, where Rux, and mostly the dev team from the wizzie days used to haunt. I’d remember how everyone would always order sausages and Singh, of course, his erdinger or some other beer. I am no beer fan, especially since I started driving I haven’t been drinking… so I just ordered a glass of guava juice for myself, and after reading today’s paper’s review of the uber burger’s $101 burger, as well as other gourmet burgers, I just had to order the Charlie Burger, which basically consists of cheese, well-done (in both ways!) meat patty, slice of pineapple, egg and the obligatory lettuce. It was not bad though the bun broke apart easily and well I just couldn’t hold the burger and eat it like how it should be, so I ended up just dissecting it and eating the bits. Yummy. Wifey had a chicken chop with pale long beans and a side of chips. The total damage? Just $19.90. Quite ok I reckon. And hey free parking too. Actually thinking about it… the food is one thing, it’s the memories that count… anyway…

Other than that, well nothing much else this weekend. Saturday was a bit of a waste though in the evening we went for some nice teochew porridge along Upper Serangoon Road, and went to NTUC in Hougang, where we were very pleasantly surprised to find some small packs of deli chips, which we were big fans of when we were in Melbourne… only 4 flavours but really happy to see them on a local shelf. The last time we ate it, dear rux boy dutifully brought it over from Melb when he came over to Sg for a visit.

Oh well. We do miss Melbourne too, and yes you too, Rux…

Sausage, fries and egg is my favourite. Over here we have this place called Grilled, they’re selling humongous burger, way bigger than the one in your pic and at the same thickness. Should show you one day … :D
