Live from the Creative Warehouse sale madness
Published June 25th, 2006 in Whatever else
Here I am sitting on some plastic chair in Creative at Jurong East at ~9am on a Saturday morning, wondering what the fuck I am doing here, and feeling rather stoned really.
I reached here Friday night at 11pm+. W and his friend reached 8pm+. The quest is basically to get a particular pair of speakers, now going for $89, usual price $179. W wants that so that he can bring it over to Sydney when he goes over in a few weeks time. I am here… for support more than anything else I guess. The other Star Buys don’t appeal to me, but later after I got my T20 voucher, I nearly regretted my decision. More on that later.
W’s friend left at 10pm and so I thought I could take over his position. But it was not meant to be. The 1bit security lady simply didn’t allow that and pushed me back to the end of the queue, that’s from position 38 to 48. Whatever. The thing is what the fuck does it matter if someone were to swap with another? I even had his NRIC to show that he has willingly gave up his place. But well they just can’t think you see. Oh well.
Their system is fucked up really. You see after registering your name and NRIC number, you will be told of the next time they will check to see if you are still in the queue. The first check was at 8.30pm or so, the second around 1245am, then 2.30am, then 5.30am, 8.30am. You see it’s designed to ensure you can’t get more than a few hours sleep really. And to make things more shitty, they decide to release the next check timing only after they have finished each round of checking. That means those checked infront will have to wait till the whole process is done before we are informed of the timing - more unnecessary waiting.
The third lump of shit is that the purchase starts at only 11am. Why must it be so late? Couldn’t it start at 9am and shorten our pain?
In between the checks we drove out, bought drinks and sat around void decks chatting. At 7am+ this old man couldn’t take it and I fell asleep in the car but just for a few mins (it seems..)…
Now I am waiting for 11am to buy the speakers… The security guard is going around saying the $1 mp3 player is all gone… W spoke to some guy next to him who was queuing for another Star Buy, the Zen Vision 30g, now $399 usual $699. I didn’t think of getting it, but when we learnt that it can also double up as a standalone device to upload your photos too, it suddenly became rather appealing. I take lots of photos when I travel, and always had to bring my PowerBook along just to offload the photos from the SD card to the computer… if I had this little device, I can easily do this without lugging around a computer. It even has a nice screen, compare that to other similar options and at $399, it’s a no brainer… there were only 5 units going… I could have gotten it really, if they were not so anal about swapping people in the queue… actually W could have bought it since it was still available when it was his turn to select his purchase, and I could have bought his T20 speakers, but never mind lah, whatever… knowing Creative it will probably break down 1 day after its warranty expires…
I just want to get this done and out of here. Have always hated Creative, now hate them even more. But hey the only thing is that I got to spend time with a dear friend who will be going away to Sydney for his studies soon, and hopefully made the narky wait more bearable for him…
Will post some pics and such later today… or tomorrow….
Update: 26 Jun Monday. Back to work… but feeling tired since didn’t manage to really catch up on my sleep. Quite a weekend - will post more later I guess. And btw, the T20 speakers are still in the box, untouched at home in the spare room…

when is the next creative warehouse sales in jurong?
