Sorry haven’t been posting, so here’s a quickie…
Just wanted to write a little about road rage. I encountered a little of that today but well it wasn’t that bad but still narky enough for me to think about it.
The morning drive sees me getting tangled in peak hour traffic. I take the TPE and ECP to the city. It’s about 10km longer than the TPE/CTE route but its cheaper in terms of ERP and it USED to be a smoother way to the city as well.
Along the way, there’s about 3 spots which I hate to deal with. The first one is trying to filter into an already crowded expressway from Punggol. Sometimes you just have to push your way in otherwise you won’t make any progress. As long as it’s safe, I see a gap, I’d take it. So I did that this morning, only to hear a loud blare of a horn from a Hyundai Matrix from behind me. I didn’t really know what was the issue but my wife said the person was gesturing wildly and doing very rude, vulgar hand signals at me. Hmm. Whatever. I just try to ignore these things, but it reminds me once again how easy it is for someone to ‘lose it’ on the road. Somehow perhaps one’s stress, angst or whatever accumulates into something that can explode given the slightest trigger on the road. A friend told me to have a baseball bat next to me just in case, but I don’t want to do so as I really don’t want to have the temptation of actually using that one day.
The next ‘hot’ spot is a junction where I need to cross two lanes so that I can drop my wife off at her office building. It happens along a curve and can be quite hard to check if traffic is indeed coming from the left that I am filtering into. No problems there today, but at the last ‘hot’ spot, I encountered a cabbie who had his hand glued to his horn while I was waiting to cross 3 lanes into the right lane so that I can turn into the carpark on time. It’s a stop junction, but to the right there is a pedestrian crossing, which I usually wait for the lights to turn in my favour so that I can cross 3 lanes easily. But no, the cabbie wanted me to move and attempt to cut across 3 lanes of traffic to get to where I want to. Sorry dude but I’d really rather wait for 3 clear lanes instead. What’s your rush anyway? Your cab is empty.
So well that’s my typical morning drive. Don’t get me started thinking of how I used to spend 30mins sleeping or listening to music on the train before I had a car.

Try being a driving instructor, you have to live with road rage every day!
