So I was doing a reinstall on my i780 for the umpteenth time and I was looking at Google Search on the Today screen and thinking what a great tool it is. A text field ready for me to search the web anytime I want! Then I was thinking it would be great if someone came up with a similiar one for microblogging. Enter Twit Today. The only one I found so far. It’s ok but I’d say don’t leave the text input field empty and white, as it is too jarring against dark backgrounds.

Google’s one retains the Today’s screen background color and has “Google Search” as default till that field is active. Then it retains the last search term ready for you to repeat the search or start a new one. It’s just perfect.

Don’t think I’d be keeping TwitToday, and TinyTwitter is too clunky for me … hopefully something will come up for hellotxt. (note there is one “app” which seems to be more so a browser of tabs to the mobile editions of each service. Better than nothing I guess)

    Hi,

    Thanks for the link!

You’re right, HelloTwitFace is a mobile tabbed browser app, but it’s hiding some quite powerful features too…for example the replies tab allows you to track any reply, even if @simonster is in the middle of the text for example. It’s best described as a “mobile mashup” I think. The next release is going to include the ability to do saved searches using tweetscan.com (if they can fix reliablity, Summize.com if not). I like the comment on hellotxt, they need an API badly!

Let me know if you want something added, just comment at http://mygeekout.com/hellotwitface and I’ll try to make it work.

    Si

Hey Alfred, I am curious what you find to be too clunky about Tiny Twitter - would love to improve on that if possible. If you have a few minutes, send me an email kevinc at tinytwitter dot com and I’ll see what I can do.

    Thanks Alfred!
